Amazon River floodplain – swamp

The sudd is a swampy lowland region. The word “Sudd” is also known as “barrier”. Swamps are very slow moving water,maimy combined with adjacent rivers or lakes. It is mostly seen in the south sudden and formed by white Nile.The sudd make a vital role to store the rain water and flood water, because sudd reduce the evaporation.sudd encourage the vegetation that means it allows the water plants. The growing plants are vary depending on the seasons, For example the tall grasses grow in rainy season and short grasses growing dry season. some main verities are.,
• Phragmites communis (shallow flooded, buried roots)
• Echinochloa pyramidalis (shallow flooded, buried roots)
• Oryza barthii (shallow flooded, buried roots)
• Echinochloa stagnina (deep flooded, superficial/floating roots)
• Vossia cuspidate (deep flooded, superficial/floating roots)
• Cyperus papyrus (deep flooded, superficial/floating roots)Mainly the sudd plays a major role to give food for some migrating birds including Shoebills, Great White Pelicans, and Black Crowned Cranes. The swamps are seen in most countries except Antasctica.Amazon River flood plain is the largest swamp in the world.The area of the swamp variable like 30,000 square kilometers to 130,000 square kms. Papyrus, aquatic grass, and water hyacinth grows in dense thickets in the shallow water.The sudd is a main sourse of fresh water and the swamps provide the land for agriculture.For this reason some countries Government protect and preserve the sudd.
