Longmen – stone cave in the Drakensberg Gate

This unique complex of Buddhist cave temples submitted to the World Heritage List of UNESCO and is recognized as one of the most important religious places of this kind in the territory of the People’s Republic of China. The total number of caves discovered this complex currently stands at about 2345. In addition, the complex has 40 pagodas.

In Lunmene is a huge number of Buddha statues. Moreover, their sizes vary from a few centimeters to 17 meters. It is believed that the different figures inside the caves at least hundreds of thousands. The length of the complex along the river Yi, is more than a kilometer on each of its sides. Most of the caves was established in VII-IX centuries AD.
