OktoberfestGermanyThe Oktoberfest or Munich Oktoberfest is a festival for “Beer” in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. It is a 16 days of celebration from the late September to the first weekend of October months, every year. People from every corner of the world will gather here for enjoying this beer festival. This event is one of the Bavarian cultures from the year 1810. Apart from Beer the tourists also can enjoy a wide variety of traditional foods like Hendl (chicken), Schweinebraten (roast pork), Schweinshaxe (grilled ham hock), Steckerlfisch (grilled fish on a stick), Würstl (sausages) along with Brezeln (Pretzel), Knödel (potato or bread dumplings), Käsespätzle (cheese noodles), Reiberdatschi (potato pancakes), Sauerkraut or Rotkohl/Blaukraut (red cabbage) along with such Bavarian delicacies as Obatzda (a spiced cheese-butter spread) and Weisswurst (a white sausage) etc.,
Every year the crowd visiting this event is getting more and more. By 2010, this festival has completed its 200 years anniversary. This year 2012, the first week participants were mostly the local peoples from Munich & Bavaria. But, in the second week, a large people from various countries, gathered here and had a great fun. This year 6.4 million visitors attended this event with a heavy hunger & thirst. A report says, 6.9 million liters of beer was consumed along with 116 oxen, 57 calves etc., The Oktoberfest is becoming a very big festival especially for the beer lovers.
